FABO
1962 - 1991
From Sheykh
Obeyd Foundations Vol.
2 #2
"The wonderful old
black Babson stallion Fabo was put down on November 15th, 1991. He
enjoyed a long and happy life, with good health until the last day,
running around his paddock, asserting his dominance over the farm. On
the morning of the 15th, he apparently suffered the first of a series of
strokes. Fortunately assistance was available and he suffered very
little. |

Fabo was the last producing
[Straight Babson]
Saqlawi-Jidran
stallion.
His close relative Khemahr (Fa-Serr x Khedena) was last reported as living (in
1992) but without having foals for some time. The only other living Babson
Saqlawi is AK Bint Serra, a beautiful and kind mare who barely survived her
first foaling, ironically a son of Fabo who was to have been Masada's
Fabo replacement. Efforts are being made to return AK Bint Serra to production.
(2003 note: AK Bint Serra went to greener
pastures in 2002 sadly unreplaced despite heroics.) |

Fabo sired 22 Sheykh Obeyd foals,
with one more due in 1992 to a *Fakher El Din daughter, the beautiful Akira
Zarif. ( The resulting black colt was WK Fabos Finale.)
Fabo is well represented within Sheykh Obeyd
lines by both his
sons and daughters. |
Fabo led about as good a life as a horse can
hope for - his early years as a family pet, at the age of 15 he was purchased
by Don Austin and Walter Schimanski and used as a major sire at Masada
Arabians. He was loved, admired and used throughout his 29 years. Being part
of his life was truly a privilege. Fabo was quite a horse - a true Arab in all
respects." - Walter
Schimanski

The first time I saw Fabo it
was a hot humid Arkansas summer day, 90+ degrees with matching humidity. He strutted out to talk to a mare
and I had goose bumps. The audio of the video I was filming had a lot of
Ooohs and Aaahs and heavy breathing!
We later were fortunate to acquire a
straight Babson
daughter of his, Masada Mishannah. His
great grandson Ahmed Fabo now
proudly carries the Fabo name for us into the show ring. Diana Johnson |
Fabo sired a total of 81 foals from 1966 to
1992. Fabo sired Legion of Merit winners Fa-Lodi+ + (x Fa-Ramahra by
Fabah) and Fa-Rambo+ + (x Wildwood Ramahra).
Fabo had no lines to
the prolific Babson sire Ibn Fa-Serr. He traced
only to the Babson imports *Fadl, *Bint Serra and *Bint Sabbah. He was a 7/8 brother in blood to Sabrah, dam of 4
National winners. He is also a 7/8 brother in blood to black Babson dressage
stallion Kamars Sharif.
