Serabaar 2002 News

 Serabaar's 32nd Birthday

A favorite photo taken many years ago when Serabaar was a young stallion. Thank you to Vernon Krueger for his eye for beauty in capturing this image.

We celebrated the 32nd birthday of Serabaar (Ibn Fa-Serr X Serabah) on May 5th, 2002.  Thankfully he is healthy and strong and still full of a joy for life.   His dinner included well soaked horse cookies as a treat with his favorite Equine Senior followed by soaked alfalfa pellets and a thin flake of hay.

The nearby dairy had a group of Mariachis to celebrate Cinco de Mayo.  The singing was his special birthday serenade.  The spirited songs drifted softly on the breeze until late into the night.

Many farm visitors this year have had a piece of one of the many chocolate "Serabaar birthday cakes" as part of the celebration.

Anyone who saw or knew Serabaar from years past and has a remembrance of  him that they would like to share, I would love to hear from them.  He's such a grand horse!

Serabaar's Dance

In July 2002, at 32 years old, Serabaar had a couple of small strokes that  affected his gait.  Mentally he is all there.  After each small stroke he has regained his co-ordination in time.  We are watching him very closely day and night.  He is getting all his favorite treats and lots of TLC.

August 24, 2002  ....   I was watching Serabaar standing quietly in his night pasture next to the house as I came out of the senior barn after dumping his bucket of soaked alfalfa pellets, soaked horse cookies and equine senior into his stall feeder. Serabaar was watching me with a bright eyed "cookies for breakfast" anticipation.

He lifted his forelegs in a half rear and galloped towards the gate then broke into an extended dressage trot as he circled near the gate.  I held my breath as I watched.  He finished a few feet from the fence right in front of me with a snort, tossing his head.  He turned in a small diameter circle to meet me at the gate.  He quietly, obediently and proudly walked with me, hay string around his neck, to his breakfast.

My dear Serabaar, my Timex, my Samsonite, my Energizer Bunny had shown me his dance... his celebration of life.

I lost my beautiful Serabaar on Oct 29th (2002) to a  stroke.   I am grateful he did not seem to be in pain and that I could be there with him the whole time.  In so many ways it was not as bad as it could have been, for that I am very grateful for both of us.  He left me quietly with our vet's assistance.

He was a very special horse and I really miss him.  Serabaar now dances with wings.
