Preservation Breeders of Straight Babson Egyptians

Straight Babson Egyptian Stallion

1972 - 1999

Ahmed Fabah was here on lease through the generosity of  Rivian Gardner of Marengo, Illinois.  Rivian bought Ahmed as a foal from the Babson Farm which is not far from Marengo.  Ahmed has been her senior sire in her Sheykh Obeyd  Babson/Sirecho program for many years.  He was a much treasured member of her family.  We are very fortunate that Rivian wanted to make him available to us for use in our Straight Babson Egyptian program. Ahmed Fabah
Ahmed had no Straight Babson offspring at that time.  In 1994, Ahmed Fabah arrived here in Buckeye to sire his first Babson foals at the age of 22.  We tested him for shipping (we have a Equine Reproduction veterinarian next door) and found that he ships very well.  Several foals across the country have resulted from this technology. Ahmed Fabah had 10 Babson replacement foals as of 2000.  He  is well represented in the Babson/Sirecho group as well as many other Al Khamsa and Sheykh Obeyd programs.

Ahmed Fabah

Ahmed was one of the last Fabah sons still breeding.   His pedigree brings us back up close to those original 1932 Babson imports from Egypt.   He was the grandson of *Fadl and *Bint Bint Sabbah!   It has been 71 years since that importation so it is amazing to be up that close.  Ahmed was also one of the rare Babsons who did not trace to Fay-el-Dine.  His influence in our program will continue through a freezing session that took place  not long after he arrived.

Ahmed was part of a very small group of Babsons that do not trace to the prolific imported mare, *Maaroufa.   This has importance in the genetic diversity it represents.   All Babsons alive now trace to *Fadl, *Bint Serra I and *Bint Bint Sabbah. There are only have a few who do not trace to *Maaroufa as well.   We feel it is important that this small genetic diversity not be lost for future generations.       The Without *Maaroufa Group
