Preservation Breeders of Straight Babson Egyptians

More on KHEBIR... Today's Numbers

(compiled by Diana Johnson using the Arabian Horse DataSource and personal knowledge.  If you have more information on this group, please send it to me and I will add it on.)

Khebir was foaled on May 16, 1942.  He was the seventh foal of his dam's total of thirteen foals (Nine mares and four stallions).  Khebir had two full brothers sired by *Fadl, the black Fasaab (foaled 1948) and the bay Fabah (foaled 1950).

Fasaab had one Babson replacement foal, Maar-Ree (dam Maarou - foaled 1957).  Maar-Ree did breed on in Straight Babson lines but she is not represented in today's Babson population.  However Maar-Ree is royally represented in today's Straight Egyptian bloodlines with many champion descendents to her credit.

Fabah remained at the Babson Farm and is very well represented in today's Babson population through both son's and daughter's bloodlines. (Link for more information on Fabah)

Khebir sired 41 foals from 1948 to 1963, of which nearly two thirds (25) were mares.  He sired only five Straight Babson foals, of which 4 bred on in St. Babson lines.

Khebir is represented in the St. Babson group through his daughters Biroufa (x Fay Roufa - foaled 1948), Khedena (x Fa Deene - foaled 1948), and Aradan (x Nadra - foaled 1953).  All have representatives in today's Babson population.

Famous Khebir headshot from AHW Oct 1962 page 33Of Khebir's two St. Babson sons Khemaar (f. 1948) and Fleet-foot (f. 1952) only Fleet-Foot bred on in the Babson group.  Fleet-Foot sired 15 foals of which 5 were St. Babson.  Only the Fleetfoot son Sera Dahmansabbah, sire of 22 foals from 1979 to 1988, bred on in St. Babson lines.  He sired two full brothers from Shar Sabbah (Negem x Gammousa).

Bedu Sahir (f. 1987) died without siring any foals.  The remaining full brother Bedu Sabir (f. 1986) is the sole Babson stallion currently breeding tracing in sireline  to Khebir.  Bedu Sabir traces twice to Khebir.  He had as of 2004 sired four St. Babson replacements, all mares.

In 2005 his first St. Babson sireline replacement, Ashkar El Khebir, was born  to Charabs Sharifa (Kamars Sharif x Charabs Sharifa).  Ashkar was the first St. Babson colt born to this sireline in 18 years.  Ashkar also carried other several lines that are unusual within the Babson group making him an interesting stallion for Babson breeders wishing to broaden their breeding program gene pool.  Sadly Ashkar did not get the chance to grow up and fulfill his destiny.  He was lost to an fast moving virus before his 1st birthday.

We are celebrating his full sister, Khebirs Akelah born in 2007.
